New York Times columnist David Brooks recently quoted our late colleague Dr. Alan Petigny (1965-2013). Brooks, who is exploring what many consider a liberal cultural shift in postwar America, has taken a lesson from Petigny’s Permissive Society: America, 1941-1965 (2010). Petigny argued that the shift many attribute to the 1960s and “spoiled” Baby Boomers broke in the 1950s with the previous generation. Dr. Sean Adams, chair of the history department, says, “I’m sure that Alan would have been proud to be cited as an authority on the matter!” You can read Brooks’s column below.
