New York Times columnist David Brooks recently quoted our late colleague Dr. Alan Petigny (1965-2013). Brooks, who is exploring what many consider a liberal cultural shift in postwar America, has taken a lesson from Petigny’s Permissive Society: America, 1941-1965 (2010). Petigny argued that the shift many attribute to the 1960s and “spoiled” Baby Boomers broke in the 1950s with the previous generation.
