Dr. Leslie Poole (UF history PhD, 2012) will speak at the Matheson History Museum in Gainesville (513 East University Avenue) on Saturday, September 19, 2015. Her multimedia presentation is titled “Saving Florida: Women’s Fight for the Environment in the 20th Century,” and is adapted from her 2015 book of the same title.
Dr. Poole will discuss important female conservationists and environmentalists, including May Mann Jennings and the three Marjorie(y)s, Rawlings, Douglas and Carr. The event begins at 2:30. Admission is $5 per person. Poole’s talk is part of a series of presentations at the Matheson this fall on Florida female activism. Come out to support the county’s local history museum and one of the UF history department’s own.
