From time to time, the blog shares informative essays on the importance of the humanities and historical knowledge. Here is a particularly good one, by Penelope Corfield, a professor of history at Royal Holloway, University of London, that puts things in plain language, and draws on examples from daily life. The article contains a number of ideas and examples that would be useful in course introductions, student advising, or cocktail conversation. Some faculty might even find the essay worth assigning in classes.
